Grieving for Waukesha

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

We are stunned and horrified by the loss of lives and mass injuries when an individual drove a vehicle through the Waukesha Holiday Parade route yesterday. Our hearts and sincerest sympathies go to the victims, their families and those with ties to Waukesha.

Classes and student activities at UWM at Waukesha are cancelled today to give the local campus community space to grieve and mourn the victims and all those affected. For Waukesha campus students there is walk-in counseling available by writing to: wak-counseling@uwm.edu.

We know that this is a difficult time for our Panther family across all campuses. I urge you to find solace and to use the many counseling and other support resources available and the Employee Assistance Program services available to faculty and staff. Additionally, there will be a Kepro counselor on-site at the UWM at Waukesha campus today tentatively from 1-3 p.m. and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon. This is a walk-in service in room C136B. No appointments are needed and all students, faculty and staff will be accomodated as quickly as possible.

This past year has been heart-wrenching in many ways, and we need one another. Give out a few more hugs today, provide a listening ear, and most of all share extra kindness to all who you encounter.

Best regards,

Mark A. Mone, PhD
Chancellor
