On March 15, 2023, Celtic Studies team members presented a diverse look at St. Patrick’s Day, Naomh Pádraig himself, and the Irish diaspora of Milwaukee. The event took place as part of a series of bi-weekly talks on cultural diversity hosted by the UWM Inclusive Excellence Center. Discussing why St. Patrick became such an important figure in history and in folk tradition, students were presented with current and past information about political and religious divides in Ireland, and how we can connect to both the traditions and the struggles in various parts of our lives in Milwaukee. Participants also learned some Irish phrases and poems (listen below) from a native speaker.
