Slow Digest: Time to Take a Break

As the C21 staff prepares for next week’s Slow Digest, which will preview our Story Cart: Attention interviews highlighting how Milwaukeeans practice slow care through deliberate attention, this week is an invitation to pause.

Take a breath. Inhale…Exhale...

Let’s practice slow care together. Here are five ways to begin:

  1. Touch Grass
Step away from your screens and return to the world around you. Sit in a café. Look up. Let yourself notice who and what is nearby without rushing to the next thing.
  2. Take a Walk
Join C21’s Human Club: Little Free Library Walking Tour on April 30 from 5–6 pm as we move through campus and visit neighborhood Little Free Libraries. Walking, noticing, and moving at a shared pace is its own form of care.
  3. Read for Restoration
Choose something that soothes you, something that asks nothing of you but your attention. Let reading be less about productivity and more about presence.
  4. Make a Slow Care Playlist
Curate a set of songs that help you settle into yourself. Listen without multitasking. Let the music hold your attention.
  5. Nothing-Maxxing
Per the current social media trend, do absolutely nothing. Sit in silence. Resist the urge to fill the space. Let stillness be enough.
