Acclaimed Indian filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan returns to UWM and the university’s Adoor Goplalakrishnan Archive and Research Fund, which is the official home of his award-winning film collection. Join C21 in welcoming Gopalakrishnan for a meet-and-greet as part of his visit to UWM.
Gopalakrishnan is one of the leading figures in the New Indian cinema movement (also called parallel cinema), which utilizes a realistic style to talk about social issues. Throughout his long career, Gopalakrishnan made both narrative films and documentaries. His first film, Swayamvaram (1972; “One’s Own Choice”), won him the National Award for best film, an award which he won for several other subsequent films.
