As a new instructor, the three technologies you will need to access are the following:
- UWM email (Office 365)
- Canvas course site (Canvas is the online learning platform—or “virtual classroom”)
- PAWS, the UWM enrollment system
All are accessible from the Faculty/Staff tab on uwm.edu using your ePanther ID and password.
UWM Email (Office 365)
Activation
- You’ll receive an email with instructions when your UWM account is ready
- Email format: ePantherID@uwm.edu (e.g., smithj@uwm.edu)
- Activation link: uwm.edu/epantherid
→ Requires your Campus ID and birthdate
After Activation
- Email may take up to 30 minutes to sync
- Log in: uwm.edu/office365
- Set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA):

Best Practices/Items to Note
- Use UWM email for all student/faculty communication
- Important announcements are sent to this account — check it regularly
- Download Microsoft Office apps free (Outlook, Teams, etc.) by selecting “Install Office” at the upper right corner or use the apps via the web
- Once you create a password for your email, that password will be used to access all other campus technologies—including the computers in classrooms
