Biography
Andrew Mausert-Mooney is a Chicago-based artist working with 16mm film, video, and live broadcast. He is interested in making work that puts politics in command, particularly around the topics of social connection and anti-imperialism. Andrew’s work has showed in festivals, galleries and exhibition series around the world including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, American Film Institute, Anthology Film Archives, UnionDocs, Chicago Underground Film Festival, Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival, Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival, Light Work, la lumière collective, Pleasure Dome and Other Cinema.
His work has earned numerous accolades, including recognition in NewCity Magazine's Film 50 (2018, 2024). In collaboration with Kera MacKenzie, Andrew co-directed his first feature film, Make a Distinction (2021). The film was honored as the Opening Night Film Selection and received Best of the Festival Jury Awards at both the Chicago Underground Film Festival and Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival.
Andrew earned his MFA from the University of Illinois Chicago in Spring 2012. From 2014 to 2022, he served as co-director and station manager of ACRE TV, an artist-run livestream television network (acretv.org). He is an educator, teaching at multiple universities.
