Biography
Geornica Daniels is a sculptor, installation artist, educator, and community-engaged artist based in Wisconsin. Originally from Virginia, she received her MFA in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where she teaches in the Department of Art & Design. Daniels is a former UWM Fellow whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in more than 40 exhibitions, including recent presentations in China. She has led workshops, artist talks, and community-based programming for organizations throughout the Midwest.
Working across sculpture and large-scale installation, Daniels utilizes the vessel, accumulative forms, and immersive environments to investigate memory, belonging, preservation, and loss. Drawing upon personal and collective histories, her work considers Blackness, motherhood, and the ways everyday objects become repositories for both individual and shared memory. She explores the gaps between where we are and where we're going, who we are and who we're becoming, and the range of emotions we experience in that space.
