UWM 15th Annual Drag Show

The UWM Drag Show (also known as the “Drag Ball” although not at all a ballroom style show) has been a staple at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee for over 15 years. The show has continually ranked as one of the largest drag performances in the Midwest and as one of the largest on-campus events at UWM – even making it to #19 on the UWM Bucket List. 2015 brings many new opportunities for the UWM Drag Show it is the first time it will be held off campus at the Milwaukee Theatre (500 West Kilbourn Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53203), there will be free bus shuttles from UWM campus locations (Cambridge Commons, Sandburg Hall, UWM Student Union) to downtown Milwaukee (stop into the UWM LGBT Resource Center for more details or email: peerout@uwm.edu), tickets are available for pick up Monday-Friday during business hours (9am-5pm) at the UWM LGBT Resource Center (2200 E. Kenwood Blvd, Milwaukee, WI 53211, Union WG-89) or the night of the show at the Milwaukee Theatre and as always the show will be American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted.

Every year performers from across the state come together to perform alongside UWM students and youth from the Milwaukee community. This is a cultural LGBT+ celebration of the historical dimensions of the LGBT+ communities and movement such as Stonewall and Compton’s Cafeteria demonstration. Annually this cultural celebration serves as a fundraiser for a local Milwaukee LGBT+ serving community organization. The 2015 donor recipient will be Pathfinders. Pathfinders hosts both QBlok as well as a youth drop in center. Pathfinders seeks to empower Milwaukee’s LGBT+ and allied youth when in crisis, to give them the tools and resources they need for personal development.
