Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction (SI) services within the Student Success Center is here to provide UW-Milwaukee undergraduate students with a variety of academic support services to empower them to learn, achieve, and succeed in college.

Our Services

Supplemental Instruction (SI) program is a course-specific, peer-facilitated group study session within historically challenging large lecture courses.
Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Small group tutoring consist of five students or less facilitated by a tutor who who have previously done well in the course.
Small Group Tutoring
Drop-in tutoring program provides immediate, short-term assistance with popular subjects such as computer science, math, and physics.

Academic skills tutoring pairs a student with a tutor trained to assist in four main areas related to academic success: time management, note-taking, study skills, and test-taking skills.

Can I attend tutoring or SI even if I am not currently taking the class? 

Students must be enrolled for credit and attending the class for which they wish to receive tutoring or SI support. 

Will SI Leaders or Tutors be able to work on homework with me? 

Tutors and SI Leaders will not work directly on homework problems during a session. However, tutors and SI Leaders will be able to review similar problems and examples that can help you complete your homework. Students can expect a review of key course material, examples, activities, study strategies, and knowledgeable answers to their questions.

Where are the Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction sessions located? 

Our sessions are held at the following locations: 

Lubar N243 for all Business and Econ (+Math 208) SI and tutoring 

Library East Wing E154 for all other subjects 

How do I sign up for Tutoring? 

To sign up in-person: Come to our main office in Bolton 120 or the Library East Wing E154, and our Desk Staff will help you sign up for a Tutoring appointment. 

To sign up online: Visit our website and fill out the tutor request form.

What should I do if I don’t see the course I need tutoring for listed or none of the SI session times fit my schedule? 

Students can complete our tutor request form and make sure to list ALL your available times. Our tutor/SI professional staff team will get back to you in 1-2 business days. 

Why should I go to tutoring or SI?

You should go to tutoring or SI to improve your course understanding, improve your study skills and time management skills, meet other classmates, need to hear a concept explained another way, or want to ask your questions. Some instructors also offer extra to participate in tutoring or SI, see your course syllabus for more information. 

What if I don’t have any questions to ask my tutor/SI leader, should I still go to my session? 

Yes! Even if you don’t have specific questions or feel too lost to know what to ask, you should still attend your session to review course material. Remember, attending tutoring and SI sessions is another effective way to study and prepare for upcoming exams. 

What if I can’t attend my tutoring or SI session that week?
