Our Mission

Pounce Back is committed to helping students who have taken time away from UWM transition back to the university to complete their degree.

All re-entry students returning to UWM who have not yet completed their undergraduate degree will be assigned a re-entry coach to help them transition back, stay on track, and finish their degree!

Currently, re-entry students are also eligible to receive a Pounce Back Scholarship for their first semester back. For specific questions regarding scholarships, please contact Student Financial Services

Program Eligibility

Re-Entry to UWM

Re-entry students were once degree-seeking UWM students but have not attended UWM for a full academic year and are ready to return to college to complete their degree. Should you find yourself ready to come back and complete your degree can find steps to reapply to UWM

Join Pounce Back

All new re-entry students are admitted into Pounce Back, assigned a re-entry coach and are eligible for re-entry coaching throughout their first semester back.

Soon after being notified by Admissions that you have been readmitted to UWM, you will receive an email from our re-entry manager guiding you through re-entry next steps and providing information about coaching support.

*** Note: While your re-entry coach will begin communicating with you shortly after readmission, they will not appear on your Navigate360 Success Team until the first week of classes. If you are a new re-entry student and have not been assigned a re-entry coach, please contact re-entry manager Jenna Balek at balek@uwm.edu.

Re-Entry Coaching & Next Steps

Once readmitted to UWM, the re-entry coach can help you with:

  • Re-Entry Next Steps – connecting you to your Academic Advisor and important enrollment info and other key campus resources and supports such as the Student Financial Services Center, Tutoring, and Transportation Services.
  • Re-Entry Coaching – Before the start of classes and throughout your first semester back, a re-entry coach is here to help you stay on track and finish your first semester back strong. We recommend you attend at least 2 coaching meetings. These meetings help you maintain a healthy work/school/life balance, set academic and personal goals, manage your time, stay motivated, build academic skills, and connect with key campus resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have been academically suspended, can Pounce Back help me prepare for a return to UWM?

Yes! If you would like to talk through options and map out a success plan when you are taking time away, we are happy to help! For more information or to schedule a coaching meeting, please contact re-entry manager Jenna Balek at balek@uwm.edu.

*Students who have been academically suspended are required to submit a re-entry application. Steps on how to reapply to UWM can be found here.

I’m returning to UWM on academic probation, can Pounce Back help me get back on track?

Yes! We recommend you meet with your re-entry coach a minimum of 2 times during your first semester back. While a minimum of 2 re-entry coaching meetings is recommended, many students find biweekly meetings helpful. These regular meetings hold you accountable for the academic and personal goals you set for yourself and help you stay motivated when procrastination, managing your time, or life/school/work balance may become a struggle.

In addition to coaching support, you will receive emails and text messages providing important enrollment information and highlighting other key campus resources that can help set you up for success as you transition back to UWM.
