  • Screamplay

UWM Student Union (UN) 2200 East Kenwood Blvd., Milwaukee, WI, United States

An aspiring screenwriter comes to Hollywood to make it in the movies... only to wind up as janitor of a fleabag apartment run by a greasy ex-boxer (George Kuchar). When the writer channels frustrations with his kooky neighbors into fodder for a new screenplay, the vivid murders he imagines start to happen for real, and the line between fiction and fantasy begins to smear. A singularly charming tribute to Old Hollywood and a marvel of low-budget, high-concept filmmaking.

  • Killer Condom | Staff Picks

UWM Student Union (UN) 2200 East Kenwood Blvd., Milwaukee, WI, United States

In the seedy underbelly of midtown Manhattan, the male patrons of the Hotel Quickie are getting their genitals bitten off by a carnivorous condom. Ace detective Luigi Mackeroni, assigned to the case, is skeptical–until he finds himself maimed by one of the man-eating prophylactics. As an army of ravenous rubbers besieges the Big Apple, Mackeroni must find a way to contracept the escalating emasculation epidemic.

  • We Can’t Go Home Again

UWM Student Union (UN) 2200 East Kenwood Blvd., Milwaukee, WI, United States

Made with his students in upstate New York, Nicholas Ray's experimental masterpiece embodies the director’s practice of filmmaking as a communal way of life, featuring Ray variously as mentor, friend, and index to his students' stories of love, rebellion, and lost innocence.  Reconstructed and restored from its 1973 release, the film's unique, almost anthropological approach to multiple-image storytelling, records the history, progress, manners, and mores of everyday life at a critical moment in 1970s America.
