Marguerite Duras Series

Les Mains Négatives (1978, 18 min), an ode to the excluded of humanity, traces a slow advance through Paris, deepened by the reference to the drawings of hands found in many caves dating from the Magdalenian age. Césarée (1979, 10 min) is made up of stills of the Tuileries gardens and its statues, stamped with the memory of Berenice, queen of the Jews, and of her city of which nothing remains but the name. In L’Homme Atlantique (1981, 42 min) Duras uses outtakes from her own film, Agatha to push her image/sound experiment even further into the realm of ‘blind’ film.
