Building Chairs & Floor Captains 

Building Chairs serve as liaisons between departments and Facility Services in matters pertaining to building equipment and maintenance. Floor Captains are volunteers who provide aid to the Building Chair and other building occupants during emergencies.

Facilities and shops staff are personnel who work in a wide variety of trades, including environmental services, plumbing, carpentry, or glass blowing. They are often associated with Facility Services but may also include shops staff affiliated with specific academic departments or research centers.

Laboratory staff and students are those who work or learn in laboratory environments at UWM. This may include faculty, lab managers, staff scientists, technicians, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, undergraduate students, group safety representatives, and other laboratory support positions.

Office staff are those individuals on campus whose daily activities are primarily based in an office setting. These staff may include faculty, academic staff, university staff, and student employees in a wide range of roles.

Principal Investigators / Researchers

Principal Investigators are individuals who are charged with conducting independent research on campus. They are often faculty, but may also include staff scientists or postdoctoral scholars in certain cases. Principal Investigators have primary responsibility for the safety and compliance of all research under their oversight. 

Researchers are any faculty, staff, or students who conduct research at UWM. Research can take many shapes and forms across the arts, sciences, and humanities.

Resident Assistants (RAs) and Residence Life Staff are live-in staff members who support UWM’s residence halls. They are responsible for building residence hall communities and assisting in emergency situations 24 hours a day.
