Building Chairs & Floor Captains
Building Chairs serve as liaisons between departments and Facility Services in matters pertaining to building equipment and maintenance. Floor Captains are volunteers who provide aid to the Building Chair and other building occupants during emergencies.
Campus Safety & Health Staff
Campus safety & health staff are those whose roles involve promotion of safety and health for faculty, staff, and students at UWM. Campus safety & health staff represent a wide range of programs and departments, including the UWM Police Department, Student Health & Wellness Center, and others.
Contractors are individuals who conduct work at UWM through a third-party employer.
Facilities & Shops Staff
Facilities and shops staff are personnel who work in a wide variety of trades, including environmental services, plumbing, carpentry, or glass blowing. They are often associated with Facility Services but may also include shops staff affiliated with specific academic departments or research centers.
Laboratory Staff & Students
Laboratory staff and students are those who work or learn in laboratory environments at UWM. This may include faculty, lab managers, staff scientists, technicians, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, undergraduate students, group safety representatives, and other laboratory support positions.
Office staff are those individuals on campus whose daily activities are primarily based in an office setting. These staff may include faculty, academic staff, university staff, and student employees in a wide range of roles.
Principal Investigators / Researchers
Principal Investigators are individuals who are charged with conducting independent research on campus. They are often faculty, but may also include staff scientists or postdoctoral scholars in certain cases. Principal Investigators have primary responsibility for the safety and compliance of all research under their oversight.
Researchers are any faculty, staff, or students who conduct research at UWM. Research can take many shapes and forms across the arts, sciences, and humanities.
Resident Assistants / Residence Life Staff
Resident Assistants (RAs) and Residence Life Staff are live-in staff members who support UWM’s residence halls. They are responsible for building residence hall communities and assisting in emergency situations 24 hours a day.
Supervisors & Managers
Supervisors and managers are responsible for overseeing tasks and work environments for their employees. They have primary responsibility for the health and safety of the employees and facilities under their oversight.
Students include undergraduate and graduate students across all colleges and departments at UWM. Students are involved in a wide range of activities associated with their coursework, on-campus employment, or extracurricular activities.
Visitors are individuals without a direct UWM affiliation who may come to campus to visit friends & family, volunteer, attend events, or collaborate with colleagues. Depending on the nature of their visit, some aspects of University Safety & Assurances may be relevant during their time on campus.
