This is an exciting opportunity for a physical therapist with a strong interest develop advanced orthopedic clinical skills and gain exposure to teaching during this 1-year paid residency (12-month, full-time VA employment with benefits). Residents treat patients with orthopedic problems approximately 30 hours/week with mentoring sessions from Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialists two-four hours/week. Education is enhanced through two hours/week didactic coursework as well as participation in monthly specialty clinics. Professional development of instructional skills will occur at UWM through lecture and lab opportunities in the DPT program and through the UWM Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. The one-year program will start in July of each year with an application deadline in early January and decisions made mid-March. Milwaukee VAMC Orthopedic Residency Program is an ABPTRFE developing program. Candidacy status is anticipated by January 2022 and signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation. Residents who successfully complete an accredited program will be eligible to take the Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) exam through the APTA
