Planetarium Presenter

Job Summary

The UWM Planetarium is searching the cosmos for a Presenter to host planetarium shows for groups of all ages. This includes leading indoor and outdoor stargazing sessions, delivering presentations on specialized topics, and operating equipment such as the planetarium projector and telescopes. This in-person position has flexibility to work around 15 hours a week. Must be available for Friday nights and weekends. The Presenter position is the perfect role for someone who wants to blend their passion for astronomy and science with public speaking skills.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Deliver planetarium slideshow presentations to live audiences using Keynote on a Mac computer
  • Operate the Spitz planetarium projector during stargazing sessions
  • Operate telescopes on site and occasionally off campus
  • Ensure audience engagement through direct interaction and Q&A
  • Attend weekly meetings and rehearsals
  • Troubleshoot and fix technical and maintenance issues on site

Qualifications

  • Graduating December 2027 or later
  • Available for at least 10-15 hours per week
  • Must be available Friday nights and at least 1 weekend per month
  • Must be interested in astronomy and passionate about sharing that interest
  • Prior public speaking experience in large group settings
  • Experience using Mac computers
  • Demonstrated interest in science
  • Experience with slideshow software like Keynote, PowerPoint, Google Slides
  • Some weekday availability and at least 1-2 Friday nights and Saturday afternoons available per month
  • Excellent independent time management and organizational skills
  • Must be willing to receive constructive feedback during rehearsals

Wage

The starting hourly wage is $13 per hour, with potential for a raise after 6 months.
