Colloquium: Dr. Claudia Scarlata
November 4, 2016 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The Physics department colloquia, when scheduled, begin at 3:30 PM on Friday afternoons, in Lapham Hall, Room 160 (in the Biology Bldg.). Coffee and cookies are available prior to the talks. The public is welcome to join.
The title of our talk on 4 November 2016 is: “New Results from the WFC3 IR Spectroscopic Survey”.
Dr. Claudia Scarlata Assoc. Professor – School of Physics & Astronomy, University of Minnesota
I will present recent results from the WFC3 Infrared Spectroscopic Parallel Survey (WISP) that we are conducting on the Hubble Space Telescope. This large program is identifying thousands of galaxies across a wide range of redshifts, spanning more than two thirds of the age of the universe.
In this talk, I will focus on our most recent results on the evolution of the Lyman alpha luminosity function out to redshift 7, and discuss implications for the reionization of the universe. I will also discuss our results in the context of future space based surveys such as Euclid and WFIRST-AFTA.
