Christopher Peters, PhD, RN

Dr. Peters graduated from UW-Milwaukee with his bachelor's degree in 1997. His direct patient care career began in medical/surgical nursing followed by intermediate cardiac care, critical cardiac care, and electrophysiology. His clinical areas of interest are focused on cardiology, especially dysrhythmia and resuscitation.

He joined the UWM School of Nursing in 2015 as clinical placement coordinator. He completed a graduate certificate in healthcare professional education in 2019, and his PhD in nursing in 2022. His research interests include academic nursing education and policy with a focus on the impact of criminal records on the admission and clinical placement process.

Dr. Peters was selected as Scholar in Residence with the National Council of State Boards of Nursing in 2024 where he advanced his expertise in nursing regulatory policy. His current research is exploring nursing malpractice and licensure discipline as reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank.

He is vice-president of the Eta Nu chapter of Sigma, the honor society of nursing. His expertise in teaching was recognized in 2025 when he received the DAISY Foundation Award for Extraordinary Nurse Educators.
