Welcome to the LGBTQ+ Resource Center

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is one of the nation’s top campuses for LGBTQ+ students and is currently rated 4.5 stars by Campus Pride as on LGBTQ+ friendly University. We have earned one of the highest score attainable in terms of creating a safe and welcoming campus for LGBTQ+ students and their allies.

Part of why UWM scores so high every year is because our dedication to the students’ experience goes far beyond just the LGBTQ+ Resource Center. We actively engage with other departments on campus to create an affirming and welcoming educational environment for all students. Our campus has also been home to some groundbreaking strides for the LGBTQ+ community. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Learn more about our history and milestones. We continue our pioneering presence today and invite you to explore some of the reasons why we are such a dynamic campus for those who identify as LGBTQ+ or allies. Stop by or join the email list to receive updates about events & programs.

We are part of the Centers For Advocacy and Student Engagement (CASE)

CASE is a collective effort to educate, connect resources, and develop programming that advocates for all students, ourselves, and each other in order to impact change at structural, institutional, and systemic levels.

The members of CASE include the Inclusive Excellence Center (IEC)the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Plus Resource Center (LGBTQ+ RC)Military and Veteran’s Resource Center (MAVRC), and the Women’s Resources Center (WRC). Each of these Centers serve students by creating spaces, programs and resources that support each student’s journey through UWM.

CASE SHARED VALUES

Advocate for Students – Work to engage and uplift the voices of underrepresented, marginalized and minoritized student communities at UWM.
Create an Affirming EnvironmentThrough programming, services, education, and policies, CASE members foster a sense of belonging and community accountability advancing systemic change.
Care – Creating a respectful, compassionate, trusting environment that celebrates success and fosters the health and well-being of the collective staff to better serve our students.

COVID-19 Office Operations

The LGBTQ+ Resource Center’s physical office is open for the 2023-24 academic year. UWM is monitoring local COVID-19 transmission levels carefully alongside other Milwaukee stakeholders. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to mitigate transmission, such as staying home if you are feeling ill or possibly exposed. Circumstances may change as the semester progresses, but we anticipate having a mix of virtual (via our Discord) and in-person events.
