Major (30–45)

See the website for your major for details on the required classes in your major

Upper-Level (300+)
Major Courses

Of the 30-to-45 credits needed in the major, a minimum of 15 must be upper-level credits taken at UWM. Some majors require more than 15.

    (6 credits)
  • Communication and Literacy (CL)

L&S General Requirements
(39 credits)

  • Language other than English

High school language courses (including ASL) and approved proficiency tests may satisfy all or part of this requirement. One year of high school language study equals one semester of college coursework.
  • International Requirement
    (6 credits)
  • L&S Humanities
    (9 credits)
  • L&S Natural Sciences
    (9 credits)
One of the L&S NS breadth courses must include a laboratory or field work experience.

Electives/Minor
(0–21 credits)

Although the combined credits listed across the four categories exceed 120, students may apply certain courses toward multiple requirements. For instance, BIOSCI 103 satisfies the core general NSW requirement and the L&S HU requirement. Because courses can fulfill more than one requirement, students can complete the degree with the standard 120 credits required for graduation.

Consult with an advisor to efficiently plan to meet your degree requirements. See the full list of courses approved for the L&S Breadth requirements and the Core General Education requirements.
