Congratulations Zashary Torres, 2021/22 Ian Elliot Memorial Scholarship Awardee!

Congratulation to the awardee of the Ian Elliot Memorial Scholarship, Zashary Torres! Read a bit about her and her experience in the GS program:

“My name is Zashary Torres, I am a first semester senior here at UWM. I am a Global Studies major with a focus in Global Management. I am a proud Afro-Latina woman with a dream to provide access to financial literacy to women of color around the world. I have always had a passion for travel since I was little. My mother is from Honduras, and I got to visit our country a few times as a kid. I loved the entire experience, flying, learning about the new cultures, and especially tasting the different foods. From here I knew I wanted to see the whole world.
After taking a few gap years from UW-Madison choosing a major that included a study abroad component was key. Being a part of the Global Studies major here on campus has fulfilled all my dreams for what I wanted to learn, a mixture of culture and business. I am excited to get the opportunity to study abroad and have an internship in Barcelona, Spain this coming fall. I hope this experience helps to narrow down what I would like to do post-graduation. I am grateful for this scholarship and the numerous opportunities that I will be exposed to.”
