Students choose political science for many different reasons. The discipline contains elements of history, sociology, law, public administration, and urban studies all analyzed through a political science lens to understand power dynamics and institutional and government structures.

Some students intend to go on to law school either to become a practicing attorney or to utilize advanced legal knowledge in business or in politics. Others take the degree in a different direction, takings its critical thinking and analysis skills into careers in business administration, marketing, public administration, foreign service, lobbying, academia or K12 teaching, community organization, or social services.

At a time when political discussion can be fraught, our mission is to welcome students from all backgrounds who hold diverse perspectives and opinions.
