All UWM employees are required by UW System Administrative Policy 1293 to complete four Mandatory Employee Trainings:

  • Information Security Awareness
  • Mandated Reporter (Executive Order #54, Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect)
  • FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) (Not required for Student employees)
  • Preventing Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence (Title IX) (Not required for Student employees)

Training Notification

All UWM employees, including student employees, complete Mandatory Employee Trainings in Workday. Employees receive an email and a Workday notification about access to each course and its due date. Reminder messages are sent prior to the due date and overdue messages are sent after the due date. For more information, see the Mandatory Employee Training- Employee job aid.

Completion Deadline

The deadline for completing the training courses is 30 days after the date that the training is assigned.

Completion of the UW System Mandatory Employee Trainings, within the allotted time frame, is a requirement to be eligible for salary increases, including those as part of a State of Wisconsin Pay Plan.

5. I already completed this training. Why do I have to do it again?

6. I missed the deadline to complete. Am I ineligible for pay plan increases?

Compliance with the mandatory training requirements is necessary to maintain eligibility for pay plan increases. Those who do not meet the mandatory training requirements will be ineligible for the next installation of pay plan. Future year pay plans will reassess the mandatory training requirement for compliance and eligibility.

7. How can I tell if I completed a course?

FAQ for Human Resources/Managers

1. Who is required to complete Mandatory Employee Training?

All employees must complete the mandatory training programs, including student hires. Exceptions to this are Scholars and Fellows, which are non-service appointments. Waivers must be submitted for those who fall in this category.

2. How do I handle the training for a person who is on leave?

An employee who is on approved paid or unpaid leave on the deadline date for any mandatory training shall be granted a reasonable period of time to complete the training upon the employee’s return to work. For more information, see Section 6C of UWSA Policy 1293.

3. Can training be waived?

In exceptional circumstances, the Title IX or Mandatory Reporter training can be waived for an employee. Waiver requests can be directed to: hr-compliance@uwm.edu. Employees need to work with their HR Business Partner if a waiver is being requested.

4. How do I track employee course completion?
  • Managers can view course completion for their team in the My Team Management Dashboard in Workday. For more information, see the Mandatory Employee Training-Manager job aid.
  • HR Business Partners can also provide managers with reports to view course completion for employees in their units. Please see the Client Group Assignments for the HR Business Partner assigned to your unit or contact hr-training@uwm.edu for assistance.
