Colors do not only trigger emotional responses but also help us to identify and differentiate products to improve safety. First Source Worldwide is a company focused on the development and distribution of dye and pigment mixtures for many products including coatings, household and cleaning products, leather, paper, textiles and plastics. Andrew Movrich, the Laboratory Manger of the FSW facility in Milwaukee, invited us for a tour to tell us more about the applications of colorants. He prepared several stations in his laboratory, and our program participants had the opportunity to create liquid dye solutions and measure its absorbance using a photo spectrometer. We also stained leather samples to observe how material can change the apparency of a color. We are very grateful for his experience and thank Andrew and his team for their time.
