Process Overview

  • Graduate Students: The maximum credit load for graduate students is 12 credits. Requests to carry an overload will be considered if the student has a strong academic record and no outstanding incompletes. The request must be supported by the student’s advisor as well as the graduate program representative.
  • Undergraduate Students: A student must obtain approval for an overload in the office of their academic dean. The maximum credit load for undergraduates for Fall and Spring registration is 18 credits in all schools and colleges, except Fine Arts (18 credits or three studio courses). For Summer enrollment, the limit is 12 credits during the full term duration, but no more than four credits during any session less than or equal to four weeks. The UWinteriM enrollment limit is three credits.
