This event is part of the UW-Milwaukee / UW-Madison Bi-campus Irish Culture Week.

Please join us for the Tionól Gaeilge 2023 event on March 3-5, 2023 in the CelticMKE Center, Wauwatosa, WI. Join this annual event that includes Irish language instruction, cultural activities, and craic.

Open to all, from the absolute beginner to the cainteoir líofa (fluent).
Registration is required for attending. Submit your registration here.

  • $75 Registration before Feb 26, 2023

Friday March 3 – County Clare Inn, Milwaukee

  • 4 PM — Michael Joyce Room reserved at County Clare for informal welcome & music session.

Saturday March 4 – CelticMKE Center, Wauwatosa

  • 9 AM — Registration
  • 9:45 AM — Welcome
  • 10 AM — Class Breakout (w/ tea break)
  • 12:00 PM — Lunch Break – Catered Lunch @ CelticMKE
  • 12:45 PM — Social Céilí
  • 1:30 PM — Class Breakout (w/ tea break)
  • 4 PM — Break for Dinner
  • 6:30 PM — Drum-Making Session as Gaeilge* – County Clare Inn
  • 7:30 PM — Poetry/Open Mic Hour – County Clare Inn

Sunday March 5 – CelticMKE Center, Wauwatosa

  • 9:30 AM – Class Breakout
  • 11 AM – Rónán Ó Dochartaigh: Lecture (free and open to the public)
  • 12 PM – Slán!

Join us for a talk about language revitalization and preservation through the persistence of An Dream Dearg and the Acht Gaeilge movement as the struggle for language rights and recognition continues in the North of Ireland. Presented by Cailín Nic an tSionnaigh and Clíodhna Ní Chorráin (Notre Dame, Fulbright FLTA).

Cailín is teaching the Ardleibhéal (Advanced) at the 2023 Tionól Gaeilge. Through this specialized course, speakers will gain fluency and come away with invaluable skills. A native of Belfast, Cailín is the primary instructor of all 4 levels of Gaeilge at UWM. Her energy and love of Gaeilge is infectious. She will also lead a social céilí on Saturday during the Tionól!
