Apologies: Stories of making amends, forgiveness, and healing
Ex Fabula StorySlams are live events where community members connect and share true, personal stories related to the night’s theme, told without props or notes. Come to listen – or throw your name in the hat for a chance to share a true story related to the theme of Apologies. At the end of the night, the audience votes by secret ballot to crown an Audience Favorite, who will be invited to share a story at ALL STARS in May.
The audience can also be a part of the storytelling by submitting UltraShorts! These are handwritten “ultra-short” stories on the night’s theme that will be read onstage by the emcee.
Since 2009, Ex Fabula has been connecting community through the art of true, personal storytelling. Ex Fabula, which is Latin for “from stories”, presents storytelling workshops, StorySlams and Community Collaborations where people listen to each other, feel heard, and grow in empathy and understanding.
Ex Fabula is part of the C21-Sponsored Brave Apologies Collaboratory, which creates multiple slow spaces to explore repair bravely. A small group of practitioners meet at least once a month to read together, discuss, and plan related events. Through moderated discussions and StorySlams, these activities will culminate in a curated StorySlam of apology stories on the Day of Action. The goal is to plant the seeds of repair in the community by allowing participants to develop this skill in a brave space.
Human Club is a Center for 21st Century Studies initiative that offers human-friendly humanities gatherings and free field trips around Milwaukee. Anyone can join Human Club – just show up to a Human Club event. Membership is free and comes with a member punch-card! Can’t find us when you get to the event?
