Biological Sciences Colloquium: Professor Nathan Muchhala

October 9 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Professor Nathan Muchhala, Univ of Missouri-St. Louis, will present a talk about his work entitled “Bats & Flowers: a coevolutionary romance“.

Dr. Muchhala is internationally recognized for his innovative research exploring how plant-pollinator mutualism and interspecific competition structure communities.   His experimental work on bat and hummingbird pollination in Columbia and Ecuador combines elegant field studies of pollination dynamics with molecular phylogenies to explore pre- and post-zygotic reproductive barriers.   His team has also investigated how different groups of pollinators influence patterns of pollen dispersal and gene flow.    Some representative reprints are attached.  Here is a link to his web site:  https://www.umsl.edu/~muchhalan/index.html.
The presentation will begin at 3:00 PM in Lapham Hall N101, preceded by an informal reception from 2:45 – 3:00PM.
