Join us for a concert-style presentation of original works by composer Lauren E. Spavelko performed by soprano Dr. Jessica Spafford. This program will highlight Spavelko’s art song cycle Baby Book, a deeply expressive set of six songs exploring themes of pregnancy and miscarriage, and possibly include excerpts of other recent compositions depending on availability and programming.
Dr. Jessica Spafford is a coloratura soprano recognized for her versatility across concert, recital, and new music repertoire. She presented and sang the U.S. premiere of Spavelko’s Baby Book at the Music by Women Festival in 2018 and continues to champion contemporary works in her performances.
This concert is ideal for anyone interested in contemporary classical music, vocal performance, and new art song. A short Q&A with the artists may follow the performance, offering insight into the process of writing and interpreting new vocal works.
