Wes Larsen is an assistant professor of Design & Visual Communication at UW-Milwaukee. Working in graphic art, performance, writing, and experimental publishing, his studio practice focuses on the use of obfuscation and irreverence to call attention to the slippage between connotative and denotative interpretations. Recent works focus on infiltration, subversion, and dissemination through economic modes of production including laser printing, serigraphy, RISO, commercial print-on-demand services, home recordings, and film photography. Prior to working in academia, Wes ran the independent design studio Tocco in Fort Worth, Texas.

Throughout the fall and spring semesters, the Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series welcomes a diverse group of nationally and internationally recognized artists working across traditional, hybrid and emergent disciplines. Join us to explore and expand boundaries of creative visual practices alongside others with an interest in contemporary visual art.

The Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series is supported in part by the UWM Black & Gold Committee and Differential Tuition funds, Frederick R. Layton Fund, the John Colt Memorial Art Fund, The Queer Curatorial Fund, Center for 21st Century Studies, Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for Individual Artists, Print Club, Focus, and OBJECT.
