Chicago-based artist Monika Plioplyte was born in Lithuania and immigrated to the US in her early teens. Her practice is driven by Lithuanian Baltic folklore, female archetypes, personal rituals, and the uncanny. She collages printed and cut paper, photographs, and other materials into narrative structures that explore reflections on the past, the transmission of information, gender, and states of “in-betweenness” as they relate to her immigrant experience.

Throughout the fall and spring semesters, the Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series welcomes a diverse group of nationally and internationally recognized artists working across traditional, hybrid and emergent disciplines. Join us to explore and expand boundaries of creative visual practices alongside others with an interest in contemporary visual art.
