Biography

Milwaukee artist kathryn e. martin explores everyday objects, spaces, and histories. She works with chosen forms in her studio, taking them apart to be repeated and reassembled in new, meaningful ways. Through this process, she interprets potential meaning while repeating the process to create new forms and narratives. These reassembled forms, when placed in a site-specific environment, create immersive sculptural landscapes. martin believes the idea should guide the choice of materials and shows this belief through her varied use of media.

martin has exhibited her work in solo and group shows across the U.S., including the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Kohler Art Center, and Aqua Art Miami. She has also shown her work at the Northern Arizona University Art Museum and the Pasadena Contemporary Gallery. In her home state of Wisconsin, she has received several public and private art commissions.
You can find public works by kathryn e. martin in several places around Milwaukee, such as along the Hank Aaron Trail, at the Milwaukee Public Library's North Avenue site, and in The Baird Center. In Madison, WI, they erected her work on the University of Wisconsin - Madison's campus, in front of Chadborne Hall.

She held an artist residency at Gallery 224 in Port Washington, WI and received a C.D. Besadny Conservation Grant from the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin among other honors.
