Biography

Jamie Bertsch is an artist and educator with a focus on mark-making and materials. Rooted in the midwest, her work speaks through shape, tactility + the poetics of color. The work is convivial. Wonder is always the starting point. Inspired by the generations of familial dreams and visions that have come before her, intuition is her driving force.

Residencies and awards include Artist Residency at Arrowmont School of Arts & Craft, Gallery 224 Artist Residency, Design*Sponge Recipient, World's End Farm participant, and an American Craft Council featured maker. Her work has been supported by Hawkins New York, Wms&Co., Bella Figura, KIKO, The Perish Trust, Mr. Boddington Studio, Cameron Marks, Jess Vargas, as well as JPMorgan Chase & Co..

Jamie has presented solo and group exhibitions across the country— notably the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, New York, the Lillstreet Gallery in Chicago, Saugatuck Center for the Arts, Minneapolis College of Art & Design, and the Parkside National Small Print Exhibition. Features and reviews have appeared in American Craft Magazine, Domino, Milwaukee Magazine, and Nest. She received an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, her BFA from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and holds a teaching appointment at UW-Milwaukee in both Fibers and First Year Program.
