Urban Planning graduate student Marybeth McGinnis was named Summer 2026 Student of the Quarter by Study Urban Planning, an organization that helps up-and-coming urban planners build their careers.
In an interview with Urban Planning Professor and Co-Chair Dr. Robert Schenider, McGinnis discusses why she was awarded the title for her passion and research in transportation planning and mobility justice, hoping to make communities safer and create spaces that inspire connections.
“I think I’m going to end up staying in this transportation world, but I’m going to put my own spin on it. It’s interesting to learn about the technical parts of transportation, but for me it comes from a place of hell,” McGinnis said. “Getting to places hurts or helps people. This is a very human and emotional point of view I think is not often discussed.”
