We are deeply saddened of the news that former Department of Anthropology faculty member and longtime Department Chair, Lynne Goldstein, has passed away. Lynne was recently honored by the Society of American Archaeology with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her years of service to the North American archaeology community. Lynne earned her B.A. from Beloit college and received her PhD in Anthropology from Northwestern University in 1976 with a dissertation titled Spatial Structure and Social Organizations: Regional Manifestations of Mississippian Society. She has been a leader in Midwestern Archaeology throughout her long career and has made an indelible mark on Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan archaeology. After leaving UW-Milwaukee, Lynne moved to Michigan State University where she served as Department Chair for many years. She helped establish the Campus Archaeology Program, which won a Governor’s award for its leadership in Historic Preservation. Lynne served as the editor of many academic journals including American Antiquity and has dozens of publications under her name. Lynne will be missed but her work and mentorship will live on for many years.
