Supporting student health and well-being is a mark of a caring campus and can help students persist. The 2024 National College Health Assessment of 1,200 UWM students linked overall health with persistence. Students who reported having better health had less intention to drop out compared to those who reported having worse health. Among those who said they were likely to leave UWM early, 1 in 4 cited an ongoing physical or mental health condition as a reason.
