Immunizations
There are no required immunizations to attend UWM, however, we highly recommend that you are up to date on your immunizations including the COVID-19 vaccines as well as the annual flu vaccine. Having your vaccination information on file with the clinic is important.
Every year Wisconsin colleges and universities are required by state statute to provide all enrolled students with detailed information about meningococcal disease and Hepatitis B, including data about the availability and effectiveness of vaccines against these diseases.
Information about the disease and vaccination can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/meningococcal/index.html and https://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/hbv/bfaq.htm.
Colleges and universities must also ensure that all students living in residence halls affirm that they have received this information and must verify whether students have been vaccinated against either disease. All residential housing students will be asked for this information during housing registration.
SHAW center offers a select number of vaccines and aims to keep student costs as low as possible. We do not bill insurance. Please note that pricing and availability are subject to change at any time. Please call SHAW for current availability and pricing.
Allergy Immunotherapy Injections
Student Health and Wellness Center (SHAW) may be able to continue to administer allergy injections that have been ordered for you through your allergist. The Student Health Center DOES NOT perform allergy testing or determine what serums are appropriate for you.
To begin treatment here, you will need to have your allergy records sent to SHAW. Once your records are received, you will schedule an allergy consult appointment with one of our medical staff. Upon review of your records and history, the medical provider will determine if it is appropriate for you to receive injections on campus.
A required information form needs to be completed by your allergist.
- Download the Allergy Information Form.
- Have your allergist complete the form.
- Have Your Allergist Fax it to the clinic at (414) 229-4161.
Orders will need to be updated annually. After each injection, you are required to wait at the clinic for 30 minutes for observation.
Each injection costs $10.00. We do not accept outside health insurance. Students are responsible for payment at the time of service. We accept cash, VISA, MasterCard, or check.
Your allergy serum vials can be stored at SHAW. They can be shipped from your allergist or carried in by the patient.

I am considering hormonal therapy. What is next?
Call us at 414-229-7429 for an appointment. Initial appointments are 45 minutes in length and are designed to learn about you and your goals for care, make sure you understand the risks and benefits of therapy, and review changes to anticipate with therapy. There is typically no physical exam at that appointment. If you want to proceed with hormonal therapy after that consultation, we will ask you to schedule a follow-up appointment with us. We usually conduct a basic exam and obtain baseline blood work.
What is the schedule for follow-up if I am on hormones?
Once hormones are initiated, students are responsible for scheduling follow-up visits at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and one year. Once students have been using hormones for one year, follow-up visits usually are scheduled every 6 to 12 months.
