Dr. Pacifico teaches in the art history department at UWM and also directs the Emile H. Mathis Art Gallery on campus as well as the UWM art collection. In these roles, he is responsible for the curation, preservation, and exhibition of an extensive repository of paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramic, and other works of arts. Dr. Pacifico uses these resources to teach and mentor students in these critical art management skills.

 

He holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s and doctoral degree in anthropology from the University of Chicago.

 

His research interests include archaeology in Peru where he continues to regularly conduct field work in Peru’s Casma Valley and direct the Casma Hinterland Archaeological Project; museum ethics; the use of satellite technology in archaeology; and African art and sculpture. Dr. Pacifico is also the director of the Milwaukee Community Archaeology Project which engages citizens in the process of examining early settlements in Milwaukee County.
