The “Panther Edge” Student Employment Award is a new category that publicly recognizes a SURF student on the day of the UWM Undergraduate Research Symposium. Nominate your students here. This award is presented by UWM’s Student Employment Program to a SURF student employee who:
- Has demonstrated commitment to growth by developing the Panther Edge Competencies over time, and as a result has taken on increasing responsibility that relies on these competencies
- Has exceeded expectations regarding their development of one or more Panther Edge competencies
- Has accomplished high quality work by relying on one or more Panther Edge competencies. Their contribution to the success of their team rests on the strength of one or more of the Panther Edge competencies
The Panther Edge competencies include:

- strong communication
- collaboration
- equity and inclusivity
- professionalism
- community changing agency
- tech savviness
- career leadership
- self-reflective lifelong learning
