UWM Certificate Programs

A certificate program is a focused sequence of courses designed to build knowledge and skills for personal enrichment, professional advancement, or career change. Most certificate programs include at least 12 credits and require an previously earned college degree to ensure meaningful academic and career preparation.
Applying is simpler than you might think. Here’s how to get started.
Applying for a UWM Certificate Program
Submit the UW-System Application
Begin your application at apply.wisconsin.edu. To apply for a certificate program, follow the following steps:
- Select Start Application
- When asked “Are you a degree-seeking student?” choose Yes.
(This ensures you can access certificate programs in the system.) - Complete the citizenship and education history sections
- Choose UW-Milwaukee as your campus
- On the Choose Your Major/Program page:
- Filter by Credential Type
- Select your intended Certificate Program
- Select your term.
- Review and submit your application
You’re officially on your way!
Activate your ePanther ID
Your ePanther ID is your key to the UWM systems. After applying, you’ll receive an email with your Campus ID number and activation instructions.
To activate:
- Visit the UWM Account Activation website
- Follow the prompts using your Campus ID

To complete your application, request your official transcripts from previous schools. Transcripts can be sent:

Once your ePanther ID is active, log into your Admissions Portal to track your progress. In your portal, you can:
- Submit required documents
- Monitor your application status
- View your decision letter
- Find your admissions counselor
- Complete your Intent to Enroll
