Lyrical Sanctuary presents Desireé Dallagiacomo
November 11, 2015 @ 8:00 pmFree
Lyrical Sanctuary is UWM’s monthly open mic night, featuring standout spoken word artists, live music and art, and YOU! For the past 14 years, Lyrical Sanctuary has brought students and community members together to share their passion for poetry, music, art, and creative self-expression. Prior to each performance, the featured artist leads a creative writing workshop open to anyone willing to put their pen to the page.
This month’s featured performer is Desireé Dallagiacomo. Ranking 3rd at the 2015 Women of the World Poetry Slam, 3rd at the 2014 2014 Individual Poetry Slam, and 3rd at the 2015 National Poetry Slam, Desiree is an award winning writer, performer, and educator. She is the program director for Forwardarts Inc. (a Louisiana-based literary arts nonprofit) and a Pushcart Prize nominee. Desiree teaches performance, writing, and social justice workshops across the country. With deep roots in a background of poor, working class women, Desiree’s work explores the intersections of gender, class, and race and challenges audiences to step into a world ignored. Studying creative writing and women & gender, she is a student at University of New Orleans- where she is a recipient of the Ryan Chigazola Poetry Scholarship.
