Join us in an exciting collaboration as Outdoor Pursuits teams up with the UWM Planetarium for an informative and captivating canoe paddle along the Milwaukee River. Engage in relaxed paddling while our Planetarium friends entertain you with their lunar insights. We’ve got your transportation and equipment covered! Midwest Climbing Series Bouldering Competition

The Midwest Climbing Series is an annual circuit of climbing competitions held on University of Wisconsin and Minnesota campuses. The mission of MCS is to promote and support the growth of the collegiate Midwest climbing community by fostering connections and building relationships through collaborative efforts and the spirit of competition. This competition is bouldering only and open to all currently enrolled college students, at ANY university.

Learn to Surf Lake Michigan

Did you know that the Milwaukee area is one of the surfing capitals of the Midwest? Lake Michigan is great to learn how to surf and provides a practice ground for bigger water. This surfing class is geared toward first time surfers who have never been on a board before! We will provide wet suits, personal flotation devices (PFD), surf boards, instruction, booties (if needed), and gloves (if needed). You will learn the beginner skills of how to “pop up,” stand up, and control a surfboard.

Lake Park Group Run/Jog

Join Outdoor Pursuits for a group run/ jog 2 miles (3.2km) from UWM’s campus to the scenic Lake Park! Enjoy fresh air, good company, and views of Lake Michigan along the paved path. Close toed shoes are required. Registration closes 1 day before the trip.

Kohler Andrae State Park Cookout

Join Outdoor Pursuits for a “Gourmet at the Beach” evening at Kohler-Andrae State Park! We’ll head from campus to the state park, where we’ll cook a delicious dinner and dessert together, enjoy it picnic-style on the sand, and watch the sun set over the waves before heading back to campus. You will even have the opportunity to give your feedback on the menu! The cost of the trip includes transportation, park entrance fees, dinner and dessert. Registration closes on 9/29.

Kayaking Lake Michigan

Outdoor Pursuits has brand new sea kayaks equipped to paddle on Lake Michigan! Join us as we launch from UWM’s School of Freshwater Science public boat landing on the Kinnickinnic River and paddle out on to Lake Michigan. We’ll have epic views of the city’s skyline and lighthouse. No previous paddling experience is required. All transportation, equipment, and instruction will be provided.

Indoor Ice Skating

Are you looking to get involved with Outdoor Pursuits? Well, lace up your skates, grab your mittens and get ready for an ice skating experience! Join Outdoor Pursuits as we carve up a night of fun at the Pettit Center. Bring your skates if you have some, but do not fret if you don’t! We will also be providing rental skates. Registration closes 1 day before the trip.

Hiking Lion’s Den Gorge

Finding local hikes is what we do best! Join Outdoor Pursuits as we venture to Lion’s Den Gorge right on Lake Michigan north of Milwaukee. This is Milwaukee’s most famous hike! All levels of hiking experience are encouraged to join! Transportation is included. Registration closes 1 day before the trip.

Graduate School Rock Climbing Night

Are you a Graduate or PhD student looking to try rock climbing for the first or second time? Outdoor Pursuits has joined forces with UWM’s Graduate School to offer a night of indoor rock climbing at Adventure Rock climbing gym across the street from Riverview Hall! All equipment and instruction will be provided. Transportation is NOT provided, but Adventure Rock can be accessed by taking the Prowl Line to Cambridge Hall or Riverview Hall and walking the short distance to Adventure Rock from there. Registration opens 2 weeks before the trip.

Graduate School Fall Colors Hike

Calling all graduate students! Outdoor Pursuits is leaving the pavement behind and heading to local trail systems to view the vibrant Fall colors. This is a perfect opportunity to explore the beauty of our own ‘backyard’ while discovering new hiking trails. And don’t forget—bring your camera! Registration opens 2 weeks before.
