35mm Print! Arthouse Classics
At the turn of the twentieth century, a small group of students from an all-female college vanish during a Valentine’s Day outing to a strange geological formation in the Australian outback in this sensual and striking tale that put director Peter Weir on cinema’s map and helped usher in a new wave of Australian arthouse film. Less a mystery than a journey into the heart of the mystical, as well as an inquiry into issues of class and sexual repression in Australian society, Weir’s gorgeous, disquieting film is a transcendant work of poetic horror with few equals before or since.
The Union Cinema is on the second floor of the UW-Milwaukee Student Union building.
