Narrative | Milwaukee premiere!

Anocha Suwichakornpong’s latest shape-shifting excavation of Thai history examines the still-palpable events of the military crackdown that left ninety dead and thousands injured during Bangkok’s 2010 pro-democracy protests. On the fifteenth anniversary of the massacre, the victims’ families are invited to take part in a fictional film about the trials of the perpetrators in a series of sessions mediated to exchange lived experience, collectively process trauma, and seek legal guidance. Foregrounding its own theatricality and alternating between testimonial interview and staged exchange, Narrative creates a hybrid space from which to reflect on history and map out pathways to justice.
