National Exams

The Union Cinema will be featuring two films by Giorgi Mrevlishvili, who holds an MFA in Film from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee! We hope to see you Friday, September 19th at 6pm and Saturday September 20th at 7pm to see National Exams, a new documentary that follows Nana Mgaloblishvili, a private tutor and language teacher at a parish school in western part of Georgia. On April 9, 1989, during the bloody suppression of a peaceful demonstration for Georgia’s independence by the Soviet Russian army, she narrowly escaped death but was severely poisoned. Nana’s lessons bring the past into the present, where literature and history meet the realities of today. In her classroom, knowledge becomes both a lesson and a prophecy, guiding her students as they prepare for their national exams.
