To be considered for admission to the UW-Milwaukee speech-language pathology Master’s program, you must have completed either an undergraduate degree in the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) major or its equivalent (leveling or prerequisite coursework (PDF)). If you do not have an undergraduate degree in CSD you must have 15 completed credits in CSD (excluding sign language) to be eligible for application.

At the time of application, your transcript must show:

1. At least 15 graded credits in CSD courses, excluding sign language courses, but including courses required on these three topics:
   1. English Phonetics
   2. Anatomy & Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism
   3. Normal Language Development
2. International applicants must have demonstrated proficiency with the English language on the TOEFL.

At the time of the program start, your transcript must show:

1. Completion of an undergraduate degree
2. At least 27 graded credits in CSD courses, excluding sign language courses, but including courses required on these six topics:
   1. English Phonetics
   2. Anatomy & Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism
   3. Normal Language Development
   4. Speech and/or Hearing Science
   5. Introduction to Audiology
   6. Aural Rehabilitation
3. A course in statistics (content covering regression and ANOVA preferred)
4. If you have not taken some of these courses, they are considered to be deficiencies. If you have 27 graded credits in CSD courses, you can be admitted with up to two course deficiencies among these four courses: Speech and/or Hearing Sciences, Introduction to Audiology, Aural Rehabilitation, and Statistics.
5. To be eligible for American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) certification in speech-language pathology, transcript evidence of the following four undergraduate course topics (non-CSD) is needed. Deficiencies in these courses will not affect graduate admission eligibility, but should be taken to fulfill ASHA requirements prior to completion of the master’s degree (Note: CLEP tests are acceptable). Applicants need to have at least one course in:
   • Biological sciences, including human or animal biology
   • Physics or chemistry
   • Social sciences, including psychology, sociology, anthropology or public health
   • Mathematics/statistics

Our graduate admissions committee reviews applicants only once each year. Students are accepted for a fall term start date.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) MS Communication Sciences & Disorders Program participates in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application Service (CSDCAS) process. All application materials should be submitted through CSDCAS and need to be completed by January 15 of the year of expected admission. Students are accepted for a Fall term start date. UWM’s CSDCAS portal opens on August 1.

Once recommended for acceptance to the Program, you will need to apply to and be accepted by the UWM Graduate School.

All materials including transcripts must be received by 11:59 p.m. EST on January 15, including payment of the CSDCAS application fee. Application materials must be verified by February 15 to be considered for admission review. It is important to get your materials in to CSDCAS as early as possible.

If you are offered admission to the program and you decide to accept that offer of admission, you will then follow up by applying to the UWM Graduate School. Do not apply directly to UWM until you are accepted.
