Although the MPH-Nutrition and Dietetics is an in-person program, some courses may offer an online option, and all courses use Canvas – UWM’s online learning platform – in some capacity.

Technological competence requirements

Students should be proficient in using email (e.g., sending/receiving messages, uploading/downloading attachments), word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word), presentation software (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint), and in using search engines (e.g., Google Chrome) and navigating websites. Proficiency in using spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel) is recommended.

Hardware and software requirements

All students will be required to have regular access to a Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chrome device (laptop and/or desktop; laptop highly recommended) with webcam and microphone. A stable, high-speed internet connection is required; a wired Internet connection is recommended for some programmatic activities (e.g., remotely proctored online exams).

The student’s device should include an updated version of a web browser (Google Chrome will be required for some programmatic activities) and access to word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, respectively. Adobe Acrobat Reader will be required for reviewing pdf files. Some program-specific software will be required. UWM will provide all students with a university email account and access to the Zoom online meeting platform.

The UWM TechMall offers discounted rates on hardware and software to students.
