The MPH-Nutrition and Dietetics admissions committee may consider applicants who are deficient in one or more prerequisite courses and/or if prerequisite coursework was completed more than 10 years ago. Applicants may choose to complete any remaining prerequisite coursework requirements prior to enrollment and/or request an exception to one or more prerequisite course requirements based on work experience, continuing education, training, or other rationale.

Should an applicant be deficient in a small number of prerequisite courses at the time of application to the program, they will be required to describe their plan to complete any remaining prerequisite courses prior to enrollment. Should a conditionally-admitted applicant not successfully complete the prerequisite coursework prior to the start of the program, they will not be able to enroll in the program and may reapply for admission at a later date.

Applicants requesting an exception to one or more of the prerequisite course requirements (course and/or recency requirement) are required to provide a detailed rationale as part of their application. Should a requirement not be deemed to be met, the applicant may reapply for admission at a later date once the requirement(s) was satisfied.

Applicants who have not completed all the prerequisite coursework prior to admission are required to respond to one or both prompts below:

  • “Describe your plan for completing any remaining prerequisite coursework before enrollment. Specify which course(s) you still need to complete, where you will complete them (that is, which college/university), and when will you complete them.”
  • “Describe why you are requesting an exception to one or more of the specific prerequisite course requirements and provide a detailed rationale for why an exception should be made based on professional experience, continuing education, training, etc.”
