The Office of Research facilitates the creation of new knowledge and the development of innovative solutions by supporting research across the sciences, arts, and humanities that enhances the mission of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and spurs economic growth.
Responsible for the administration of research activity, oversight of research policy, and compliance with federal and state mandates at UWM, the Office of Research provides pre- and post-award administrative support for sponsored projects, encourages the transfer of technology to the marketplace, and develops sound policy that protects investigators, subjects, and the institution.
Office of Research Development Services
Advises and assists researchers with grant proposal research, planning, development, and writing. Services include training sessions on a wide range of grant development topics, special programs for junior-level faculty, and coordination of large and complex proposals.
Office of Sponsored Programs
Consisting of Pre-Award and Post-Award divisions, OSP is responsible for administering and submitting proposals, ensuring their compliance to sponsor and institutional requirements, and oversight, administration, accounting, and dispersal of awarded funds.
Research Integrity & Compliance
Assists researchers with effort reporting, conflict of interest, and export-controlled programs, and works closely with other units on campus to ensure UWM’s compliance with federal and state mandates on sponsored projects.
Office of Undergraduate Research
The Office of Undergraduate Research is a central location for undergraduates seeking on-campus research opportunities and faculty seeking enthusiastic, motivated undergraduate students with whom to collaborate. The OUR also supports these collaborations by providing student salary, travel support, and professional development opportunities.
Information and Technology Analysis
Provides information technology support to Office of Research and the UWM Graduate School.
Administrative & Financial Services
Manages and administers all human resources activities related to staff and students employed in the Office of Research and its organized research units. This unit is also responsible for the development and implementation of the annual and biennial budget, and for the monitoring and oversight of expenditures for Office of Research.
