As a globally engaged university, the UWM encourages international education, research, and outreach. At the same time, UWM must manage and/or mitigate the risks associated with international travel.

The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures for certain international travel that may pose increased risks.

Travel and Miscellaneous Expense Authorization

The Travel and Miscellaneous Expense Authorization form (TMEA) form must be used for employee and student university-sponsored international travel. A travel risk assessment form has been incorporated into the TMEA process. International travelers should select “Foreign Travel” under Expense Type to enable the form to populate the travel risk assessment questions. The TMEA approvers will use the information provided as part of the approval process. TMEA approvers may contact the UWM Office of Research Integrity & Compliance at or-exportcontrol@uwm.edu for foreign travel consultation.
