After graduating from Bethel College, now Bethel University in St. Paul, MN, I became a Registered Nurse in 1991. I began working in neurosurgery units and graduated from St. Louis University in 1996 with a Master of Science in Nursing degree. My specialty is in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and I was certified as a Clinical Nurse Specialist for many years and worked in the Rogers Hospital System. I have worked in neurosurgery and critical care and in many psychiatric care settings, as well as both rural and urban home health nursing practices. I have worked in Telehealth.  I started teaching for UW-Milwaukee in the Fall Semester of 2008; I had previously taught for the University of South Dakota at Sioux Falls, where the degree was a baccalaureate in biology and an associate degree in nursing. I have enjoyed teaching nursing clinical in about 20 different locations in and around the Milwaukee area.
